The resolution, passed with 14 votes in favor and 1 abstention, highlights the increased risks faced by humanitarian workers and calls for enhanced measures to ensure their safety and accountability.
The Protect Aid Workers mechanism was presented at the 2024 Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks. The session introduced the situations covered by the mechanism, the selection criteria, the grant application process and the partnership specificities.
The 2024 European Humanitarian Forum's panel on "Enhancing the security of humanitarian workers in conflicts and complex emergencies" discussed the dangers faced by humanitarian workers and presented strategies like security training and risk assessment to minimize these risks. The panel emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among humanitarian organizations, governments, and local communities, and suggested policy improvements to better protect humanitarian workers.
